Looks like upstream 1.0 has already been packaged in oft-stix:
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/o/otf-stix/otf-stix_1.0.0-1/changelog

Getting Khaled Hosny's improved branch Debianized in a separate package
would be very good. Thank you for taking care of that.

Yes, I agree that it's great to see such an active branch with the whole
tree in a public DVCS and rapid open development happening, Kudos! And
bidi as the inspiration for the name of the branch is quite clever :-)
Very promising for users of advanced Math features.

I try to keep up with all the interesting open font-related news! It's
interesting to listen to your voice in the global conversation.
