Probably we need to document this if its mandatory. I actually follow
using upstream name under /u/s/truetype/ and have this in multiple font
packages of mine (and I'm also co-maintainer of noto fonts)

If this is a policy we should also consider creating lintian rule.

PS: If I'm overlooking some Debian policy correct me :).
