 Sure, my ~/.gpb.conf is below.

 And there is no .git/gbp.conf and I don't modify /etc/git-buildpackage/gbp.conf

 Yes, and just "cp -arp libspiro /tmp/; cd /tmp/libspiro" and 
 gbp buildpackage works... (why?)
 
 Anyway put updated package to Debian.
