I don't have native X on my ppc machine either, but i'm using ssh
forwarding to bring X over to someplace i can look at pretty pictures :)

I don't see 0.41 in the archive, but i built it from your signed
debian/0.41-1 git tag at commit e116b60100a872f3329acf5be22f4737ab784c7d
-- thanks for publishing your work in git, it makes it nice and easy to
keep up-to-date :)

I built it and installed it on a powerpc sid system, and still get the
segfault (but without the error message):

0 dkg at tyr:~$ birdfont
birdfont version 0.41
built on Wed Jul 16 11:23:00 2014
Segmentation fault
139 dkg at tyr:~$
