Hello,
For some unknown reasons, WenQuanYi Zen Hei, a primarily Chinese font,
somehow provides a Tofu-like white-square glyph for U+10000,
named "hu10000" in the font.
However, U+10000 is actually "LINEAR B SYLLABLE B008 A", a very ancient
form of Greek, provided by proper Linear B fonts such as the
"Noto Sans Linear B" in
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/noto/NotoSansLinearB-Regular.ttf
in the fonts-noto-unhinted package.
And, somewhat unfortunately, maybe due to the fontconfig files that come
with fonts-wqy-zenhei, the wrong "Tofu" glyph in WQY ZenHei trumps
the correct glyph in "Noto Sans Linear B".
So, in summary, three issues:
1. Find a way to contact the upstream author? :-)
2. Fix the actual "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" TrueType font to remove U+10000.
3. Check its fontconfig file, say, 64-wqy-zenhei.conf, and see if
we can stop WenQuanYi Zen Hei's erroneous U+10000 from trumping
others?
Cheers,
Anthony
