This is a known issue. You need to restart your computer after
upgrading fonts-cantarell.

A Cantarell developer said this recently:
"The reason is that afaik FreeType's or FontConfig's glyph cache
 gets messed up when you replace the actual font file while it is
 in use by an application. It can also cause crashes (see e.g.
 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/101 )."

By the way, this is a major reason why GNOME Software only offers
offline upgrades. It allows you to avoid issues like this.

There's nothing really that we can fix here in fonts-cantarell
but I think it doesn't hurt to keep this bug open so that others
will see this bug easier.
