Whenever I run xdg-mime to set the default application:

> xdg-mime default foo.desktop 'foo/bar'

-- it updates the [deprecated][1] 
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list instead of 
~/.config/mimeapps.list||.
Even if I make a symlink from ~/.config/mimeapps.list to 
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list:

> $ ln -s ~/.config/mimeapps.list ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

-- xdg-mime, upon the next invocation, rewrites the link itself, *not* its destination.
