This is because subpixel rendering was enabled by default in fontconfig
2.14.1. And it overrides the GNOME setting (which is accessible in
GNOME Tweaks or directly in the gsettings/dconf database).
As a workaround, you can run “dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config” and
disable subpixel rendering (3rd question).
