Showing a willingness to work with a team, and not be "selfish" would
seem to be just as important.

Ultimately being in the Debian project you do two things:

    1. Package software, fix its bugs, handle new upstream releases,
    etc.

    2. Deal with fellow members.

After a bit of practise the first is mostly simple, it is just getting
the hang of different things, and making sure you don't fall behind.

The second part, the social part, is where some have problems.
Traditionally we have lots of arguments in the project and some
stubborn people .. I'd expect that if you asked your mentor/sponsor
 they would support team maintainence.
