I guess its just personal preference.  When I merge in a new upstream
release, I like to be able to go through my patches one at time.  These
are often grouped together in meaningful ways (change all 64 int-> long
casts, etc..).  When you keep things in a single .diff, you end up with
a lot of conflicts throughout the source tree.  Its probably the same
amount of work to resolve either situation, but I just prefer the
organization of doing things in logical chunks, rather than file-by-file.

Since it seems we seen to have several styles of packages by the
maintainers on this list, perhaps we should refrain from a single policy
for maintenance and each group/package use whatever system they feel
most comfortable with.  I think most of the goals of this project in
respect to collaboration are orthogonal to packing style.
