I think that it is actually correct what you did. IIRC, the
dependencies which the package directly links to should be clearly
stated, even if pulled anyway.

Unfortunately no, it uses GNUmakefile which means it has to use
GNUstep.sh for building; look at other GNUstep packages, for examples.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about when I said
"convenience". I am doing the following: pbuilder login, install
subversion, checkout, install builddeps, svn-buildpackage and after I
finish I copy the resulted orig, diff and dsc in /tmp, which in turn I
copy from the host environment in some place. Clearly, now one should
do pdebuild <dsc> and see if everything goes fine (yet another script
and another konsole session type - pbuilder build)
