Sorry, I couldn't reproduce this bug.  It works fine, here.

Could you please try to get the error message / triggers output for us?
You could try to open a new console (on most window managers <alt>+<f2>
will open an window to start a new command; entering
"x-terminal-emulator" should open a new console).  In the new console
you can try to change the resolution with the "xrandr" utility in the
package xbase-clients (e.g. "xrandr -s 1024x768" would set the display
to that resolution), and hopefully you will see your old console again,
with triggers output.
