/getmap and /sendmap don't work (need write permission on
  /usr/share/games/sauerbraten/packages/base ?)

this config file locks the game for me:
name "tarzeau"
team "GNU"
sensitivity 4
(i put it in ~/.sauerbraten/config.cfg)
