sorry, you are right of course, I use the ati driver.
I went recently to unstable and I remember now, had to replace the fglrx driver with ati because fglrx it's broken in unstable (it conflicts with xorg).
well I guess this is an ati driver issue after all.
if I manage to install the fglrx driver, I will report back to you...
