This suggests that the gimp-script in mktiles fails to execute
gimp-quit.  That would not surprise me either: your build uses a newer
version of the gimp than I had, and they aren't really expecting
script-fu to be used for batch processing in my experience.

I'll see if this is indeed the problem.

If the gimp script is indeed the problem, I could add it there, but I
think most people (and certainly most upstreams) consider artwork
something to package prebuilt, if it is generated at all.  Is it useful
anyway to add it?
