I have a VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34
         [GeForce FX5200] (rev a1).

The driver packages:

ii  nvidia-glx          100.14.11-1         NVIDIA binary Xorg driver
ii  nvidia-kernel-2.6.2 100.14.11-1+custom. NVIDIA binary kernel module for Linux 2.6.22.16
ii  xserver-xorg-core   2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12le X.Org X server -- core server

These are somewhat outdated, since I don't want to upgrade yet to
xserver-xorg 1.4 due to the many reported issues with that version.

BTW, I compiled and installed Barry's new version on mentors.debian.net,
but I still got the errors quoted above (except for the
"mkdir ... failed" , which is fixed). :-(
