Bug#459417: oolite causes X to abort with signal 11

Weird.

Does installing oss-compat makes this go away. (I am almost sure that
installing oss-compat will not make the X SEGV disappear, but I am
considering to recommend the package to avoid alsa issues).

This is weird. There is absolutely no information.

Could you send the output of 'lspci -nn' and your xorg.conf?
