Hello.

This is not a bug. Currently, there are two versions of OpenArena "in 
the wild".
0.7.1 (or 0.7.0, which is basically same) and 0.7.6. Older versions were 
out for a very long time. The new 0.7.6 is only recently released.
Many servers require strict client file matching (this is called "pure 
server" in Q3 terms) , i.e. they don't allow anyone with files differing 
from their own version to connect, to prevent cheating.
And many servers have not yet upgraded to 0.7.6.
A solution currently is either to keep two versions of OpenArena 
installed (if you really want to play on an older-version server, look 
for a 0.7.1 tarball, download and unpack it somewhere), or to write 
mails to server admins, asking them to upgrade.
