sorry for the delay... 
cloning this bugreport to libasound2, as the errors look like alsa problems to 
me. Alsa maintainers, I hope I'm right with this, if not please give me a 
hint and/or reassing to the correct package, thanks!

Nonetheless, as I already wrote, trigger should really *not* bail out if sound 
is not available. Hence also leaving this as a trigger bug report. I hope 
I'll be able to fix this in trigger's svn soonish, but I can't guarantee if 
I'll find time for it next weekend.
