Ah, well, in this case, Gerfried was right.

I don't want to package a MESS desktop file, I want to package
“mess-desktop-entries”, which register the appropriate mime types and
actions for the file types MESS can run. This is a package on its own and
should be packaged on its own, not included in MAME. By the same reasoning
g-v-a is not packaged inside the MAME package, fwiw.

I actually hate having a .desktop file for MAME in my apps menu. That's
why we have frontends for ;)
