This patch fixes the FTBFS due to the --as-needed ld change.

In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * Added debian/patches/01-fix-ftbfs.
    - Fixes FTBFS from --as-needed linker change

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.
