I tried without my mame.ini file and there's no difference.

I recompiled MAME again, with no changes this time, and it works fine,
so I suspect the problem is (triggered by) GCC 4.7 (I'm using 4.6.3).

If I have time tomorrow I'll try to compile it with GCC 4.7, but a
quick look shows that there are other packages that have problems with
the latest GCC:
