just a small side note _for Mess_: please leave the full path
including personal/local directories for the mess.ini hashpath entry.

Mame is strict when it comes to roms name, so the provided files suffice,
OTOH Mess emulates machines which in turn can run lots of software,
the files provided are just templates to be edited at user convenience.
