Package: minetest
Version: 0.3.1+dfsg-4
Severity: normal
After playing minetest for a while, the screen suddenly becomes black.
Messages are still visible (e.g. the player's position at the top left),
etc. The inventory is still available. It is possible to ESC to the
menu, exit to the OS, come back, etc. There are no error messages in
the logs.
As it turns out, if you see these symptoms, you've "just" suddenly moved
to inside a block. It is possible to escape thus:
* using a pickaxe, hit the left mouse button until you see your pickaxe
move. If you don't have a pickaxe, it will take longer but you'll
eventually see something. This means you've destroyed the block you
were in.
* throw a torch if you have one. If you don't, squint :)
* dig up as far as necessary to surface. If you have ladders, you can
use them to climb straight up instead of digging stairs.
Alternatively, exit to the OS, rm -rf ~/.minetest, and start a new
world.
I think it is a bug that, sometimes, the player moves down to inside the
ground. This happens quite often when re-joining an existing world. If
you leave the game running while you do real work in other windows and
then come back, the chances are very high that you'll encounter these
symptoms.
