Default ROM path for mame/mess

Hello Folks

I have seen we have switched the default data search paths from
$HOME/mess to $HOME/.mess for mess
$HOME/mame to $HOME/.mame for mame

Do you mind if I revert the change ? $HOME/mame/roms and all the data
search paths expects files to user manipulated ( ie moved here with your
terminal or file manager)

I don't know of any applications which expect you to put data to be
processed in a dot directory, even if it were the case it would be a bad
thing IMHO. These directories are hidden by default, so having to tamper
with it make the use of Mame more difficult for casual users.

As /usr/local requires you to be in the adm group, and /usr/share to be
root, IMHO I think we should have a place to put stuff for the normal
users whithout to require to tricks like showing the hidden directories
in Nautilus.

I hope we can agree on this :)
