Are you a member of pkg-games on alioth[1]? If you are, feel free to
go ahead and update the minetest git repo there; even if you aren't,
I'd invite you to consider joining the Debian games team if you're
interested in maintaining minetest and/or other games team packages.
And don't forget to give Michael a poke (I'm only a DM, so I can't
sponsor this package on your behalf; you'll need to find a DD to help
you with that).
