It's a provider of "doom-wad" and a non-free package that I do not want
to (alternatively) explicitely depend on anymore.

Why doesn't heretic-shareware-data already provide heretic-data?

Not yet. The fix is in upstream GIT and is pending for the next
chocolate-doom release, but it is not yet in the Debian package.

prboom-plus, for example.
