I have found the root cause. The 0500-config.diff patch wrongly enabled
SDL2_CONFIG instead of SDL_CONFIG. Thus the game was not compiled with
MIDI sound enabled.

It will take a bit longer to fix this in Stretch but I'm sure the
release team will approve the update.
