Sorry for the long delay in replying. Looking over the bug and clones,
having been prompted by a bug against uhexen2 itself (#882114);

As far as the original scope of this bug is concerned, yes, I think we 
could close it; the documentation is improved, g-d-p has the checksum
data for hexen2 now and I believe it will emit the relevant warnings.

However (and I'm not sure why I didn't file it this way in the first
place) I think it would be nice if game-data-packager could handle the
patching of hexen2 data where necessary.

Therefore I'm repurposing this bug to that effect, rather than file
another. If that irks you please revert, clone and close as you see
fit.
