I read that, but I guess I didn't take it in. I think I possibly didn't realise
that the sentence applies to the current version. It says 081 in the package
name, so I assumed I was using that version. Possibly you could say, "The
structure of OpenArena has changed this version, and the openarena package
cannot be installed without this package. This applies to the current version,
which is 0.8.5, even though it says openarena-081- in the package names."

Yeah, that's a whole separate debate, but I'm satisfied with your answer.
I was hoping that the wishlist bug report would have some worth in the BTS
anyway, if only for a discussion like this.
