Yes, in fact, I've upstreamed such a fix.  I thought I had included that 
patch in Debian, but it appears that I have not.  We can definitely do 
that.

Is this same bug that you've written up recently as #933554?  I don't have 
a Debian system with a HiDPI display, but I should probably be able to 
test on another OS.
