I cannot reproduce this issue, so it might have to do with your specfic 
video hardware or drivers. I guess that's the price we pay for still 
using SDL1.2 for a game in 2021. /o\

What I can confirm, though, is the game crashing when using 
libsdl-mixer1.2 (<< 1.2.12-17), but that's a different story and happens 
only after the intro.

Does it help if you pass the "-window" command line parameter to avoid 
any fullscreen mode switching?
