As a non-maintainer I didn't want to be the one to suggest that (at
least not immediately), but I'm always happy to see the number of
unmaintained, undermaintained and/or obsolete packages go down. Doing
testing and mass-bug-filing for SDL 1.2 has made me think "why is this
in the archive? is its value really greater than its QA cost?" about
quite a lot of the affected packages.

The beginning of a release cycle, when the majority of packages in unstable
are identical to the versions in stable, seems like an excellent time to
clean up obsolete packages, knowing that anyone who wants to resurrect them
can easily fetch the most recent version from stable.
