Regarding this bug:

I just retagged 7.71.7 upstream in svn so that the problem with the 
Cvar_SetValue shouldn't be there anymore (I removed this upstream). Now 
it's included in the 7.71.7 release as well, so there is no patch needed.
I hope someone can find the time to update Alien Arena to 7.71.7 in 
Debian. I'm not familiar with the Debian tools and environments to do 
this efficiently myself.
