I just commited a changelog with a snapshot version number. So it should
now be able to simply build from the check out.

BTW, the added patches are the following

[1] debian/patches/0002-fix-gzfile-conversion-error.patch
needed because of changes in zlib

[2] debian/patches/0003-fix-pval-to-zval.patch
needed because of changes in latest PHP versions, pval is no longer
available

[3] debian/patches/0004-remove-hex2bin-provided-with-php-5.4.0.patch
removes the hex2bin() function and uses the newly introduced one from PHP
