montage  -title in combination with -frame [small value] or -geometry 
+[small value]+[small value] produces an image, where the title is 
hidden behind the images. With higher values, e.g. -geometry +20+20 the 
title is visible again. In all cases some extra space is added at the 
top of the image, when using the -title option, but the title is not 
placed there.

examples:
montage -title "test" -frame 4 a.png out.png
montage -title "test" -geometry 50x50+1+1 a.png out.png
