Well it wasn't the kernel. I ended up clearing out all my .gnome
directories and now nautilus is working fine. I didn't want to do this
but I don't have the time now during exams to hunt down this bug.

Your right I shouldn't have been harsh. I felt that he was being
condescending in his email so I wasn't polite. This bug can be closed.
