gcalctool ignores operator precedence, e.g., the result of typing 2-1*2
is 2, while it should be 0.

This is not a bug but an upstream choice ...
According to the website (http://calctool.sourceforge.net/):
"One of the most important things to remember about calctool is that
calculations are performed from left to right, with no arithmetic
precedence. If you need arithmetic precedence, then you should use
parentheses."
If you need operator precedence perhaps could you try galculator, that's
a nice gnome2 calculator too.
