Package: gconf2
Version: 1.1.10-2
Severity: critical

gconf2 is continuously eating up all memory (physical + swap, here: ~ 2G). If all memory is consumed, the box is rendered unusable for a couple seconds breaking everything relying on cpu time, then gconf2 starts from zero again (and again and again...).

Happened while using gconf2 with current galeon and gael packages, rendering these programs unuseable (they do not start at all, no bug output, just sitting at the commandline and waiting for something).

gconf does not shut down via proper command, even kill -9 doesn't help, it just restarts itself. Only an endless loop (while [1]; do kill -9 <current_pid>;done) does get rid of the daemon after a good dozen of kills.

In this state, the package is *not* useable!

No news on this bug for more than 1 year, this bug is probably
fixed in the new versions of gconf. I'm closing it. Feel free to reopen
it if the bug is still here.

Cheers,
