Well, I mainly keep the gnome 1.4 control-center and a matching sawfish
version to be able to configure the gnome 1.4 core applications. There
has never been a version of nautilus for gnome1.4 as far as I know, at
least not in Debian. So I kept installing nautilus from unstable until
dependencies request the deinstallation of vital gnome1.4 components in
favor of gnome2. Unfortunately since the version I reported the bug for
nautilus does not display anything but a standard "sheet" icon for every
file until you configure an icon-theme for gnome2 - which can only be
accomplished using the gnome2 control center. I presume that this could
be resolved by shipping a reasonable standard config with nautilus which
tries to use the gnome-icon-theme right away and without requiring the
user to have gnome2-control-center installed.

I am aware of the fact that mixing gnome1.4 and gnome2 components may
not be officialy endorsed but a try at gnome2 early this year was so
shockingly disappointing (at least 60% of everything I got used to in
1.4 over the years was just gone, unusable or buggy as hell in gnome2)
that I reinstalled from backup and swore to keep the 1.4 base for at
least another year, then retry and if it still sucks, switch to some
other desktop.
All that, of course, isnt your fault.
Its just my frustration speaking ;-)

P.S.: Apparently you are dedicating your precious christmas holiday to
dig bug report lists. I'd like to express my honest respect.
