I have been unable to obtain a new backtrace.  Since asking for the bug 
to be re-openned the problem seems to have gone away.

In order to fix bug 216413 I was advised to upgrade nautilus to version 
2.4.1 and in order to do that I had to upgrade many Gnome libraries to 
the 2.4 versions and I suspect this library upgrade has fixed this bug.

Here are the versions with balsa working correctly.
