Mmm, 

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure fam
Starting file alteration monitor: invoke-rc.d: initscript fam, action "start" failed.

It was running in inetd mode, but i am not sure it did work as expected
when i changed it. That said, maybe it failed to start because of the
open device or something. I will have to reboot to be sure it changed
something.
