Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.6.0-1
Severity: important

Regardless of the size of the library file (from a few k to 1.9 M), and
over samba or local, Rhythmbox is slow (~2s) to "seek" to a different
song after pressing Next or when the end of the song is reached. When
this happens, the graphics also lock up, however, the load does not
change much, only when the song begins to play, possibly indicating
samba activity combined with a library seek. No song in particular
(whether it be very small (100k), very large (40 MB), mp3 or ogg (at
different qualities) seems to ameliorate the problem.=20

I've tried this on several unstable kernel 2.4 boxen (2.4.21) and there
is no problem, even with the same songs playing locally (haven't tried
over samba yet)-- however, the sound cards are not similar to my
workstation (intel-8x0). It seems that this is a 2.6 issue, but the
same songs play fine with xmms and there is no seek problem. Could this
be due to buffering that might take place in xmms and not in RB-- but
that wouldn't explain the problem on local files.

I haven't tried to eliminate GStreamer from the issue, but If I can find
a way to, I'll try it.

     2.6 Workstation Specs:
      * Asus A7N8X Deluxe (Alsa, snd-intel-8x0)
      * Athlon 2100+
      * 2x512 MB PC 2700 DDR Dual Channel
      * 40 GB Maxtor Diamondmax with DMA enabled
      * Ati Radeon running XF86 Vesa drivers
      * Debian Unstable

     2.4 Workstation Specs:
      * IBM Thinkpad X30 (OSS, ac97_codec, which uses the i810 driver)
      * PIII 1.2 GHz
      * 40 GB IBM Notebook drive with DMA enabled
      * Same songs as 2.6 box, rsync'ed from the server
      * Debian Unstable

     *Note: 2.6 Workstation and 2.4 Laptop running nearly identical=20
             (give or take a few) package list.

     File-server Specs:
      * Athlon 1700+
      * 512 MB PC 3100 DDR
      * 2x160 GB Maxtor DiamondMax 7200 RPM, 8 MB Cache with DMA enabled
      * 2.4 Kernel
      * Debian Stable (Samba 2.2.8a-0.1, Latest in Stable)

As noted before, xmms over samba works fine and so does MusicMatch and
Winamp on the few windows boxen that are unfortunately on the network.

I really hope we can get this worked out, as it not only bugs the heck
out of me, it bugs a few of my friends also.
