Package: gnome-utils
Version: 1.4.1.2-4
Severity: normal

gdialog only understands the 5 options that are explained in the
manpage. However, the rest of the manpage suggests that gdialog can be
used as a dialog replacement. This is not true and will lead to
scripts not working at all if they use any of the dialog options, like
--beep, --timeout and so on.

This may be also regarded as a wishlist bug, to be forwarded to
upstream, to implement this stuff. But I think that it is important to
point out not to just replace dialog by gdialog in existing
scripts, or - as somebody who knows dialog - extend existing scripts
that use either of them with well-known options, thinking that gdialog
is an improvement.

Note that I am refering to woody - I don't have access to an unstable
system to test wether the problems persist there.

Bye, Frank

Zenity (the gdialog replacement in GNOME 2.4) closes this, as it does
not claim to be a dialog replacement. There is a gdialog compatability
script, but it is only for porting.
