Subject: gdm: wrong keyboard selected (due to .xmodmap?)
Package: gdm
Version: 2.4.4.7-1
Severity: normal
Tags: sid l10n
After updating to gdm 2.4.4.7-1 the keyboard is not properly recognized
although everything is correct in xserver-xfree86 - i.e. no accents are
allowed, nor the ¤ or ·
But entering with Gnome Failsafe everything works fine.
And I've created a new user and everything works fine.
It seems the difference relies in the .xmodmap file in the /home
directory of the user that has the keyboard problems. The new user
hasn't got this file and nor the superuser root, which hasn't got either
problems with accents.
I guess simply deleting the .xmodmap file the keyboard thing will work
again but I'm not sure why the new gdm has created it (if it has done
it) and if I need to keep it.

gdm didn't create it -- the user did at some point. If you don't need it,
you should just delete it.
