Hi,

I'm not sure what you expect here. I will do something
according to your next reply.

I don't know which you actually modified gtkrc files. but
please /usr/share/doc/libgtk2.0-0/README.gz. you can see
~/.gtkrc-2.0 is what you need to modify for something you
want.

TJ> -changed the sym link in /etc/gtk (which pointed to iso8859-14 :-/

It's for gtk1.2. but not gtk2.

In GNOME2.2, it won't be used unless you specify
GTK_USE_XFT=3D0 as the environment variable. please read
/usr/share/doc/libpango1.0-0/README.*

So what you want to expect here is:
1) you want to change the font for the gtk2 applications
without gnome-settings-daemon, use "font_name" directive in
your ~/.gtkrc-2.0, like this:
style "my-default-font"
{
	font_name =3D "Luxi Sans 10"
}
class "*" style "my-default-font"

and I will close this then.

2) correct font should be chosen for the alias font like
Sans, Serif, Monospace on gtk2 applications, I will reassign
this to fontconfig, because it's not a gtk2 bug.

Regards,
