Bug#233883: gnome-session: very slow to shut down (checkpoint?) xterm windows

I've also been bitten by the can't-logout-if-xterm-is-running problem
and started to downgrade to get rid of it (praised be
snapshot.debian.net). What I've discovered is this:

o Downgrading gnome-session to 2.4.1-2 does not help.

o Downgrading xterm to 4.2.1-16 helps.

o Upgrading xterm to 4.3.0-2 reintroduces the problem. (Since the
prereleases in experimental aren't tracked by snapshot.debian.net,
I haven't been able to minimize it more than this.)

So something has happened in XFree86 4.3 that causes this bug. (Of
course, that doesn't really say whether the bug actually is in xterm
or in gnome-session.)

Anyway, I'm now keeping well away from 4.3 since it not only
introduces this but several other annoying bugs as well.
