I cannot reproduce this on i386.

"apt-get build-dep yelp" pulls in libsm-dev as
yelp Build-Depends: libgtk2.0-dev (>= 2.4) Depends: xlibs-dev Depends:
libsm-dev.

Please investigate how this chain looks like on powerpc.
