No I did not. I just tried, without succes, to do that. Using emacs, I
picked UTF-8 as language environment, I added a "é" inside the
Welcome= but no text at all showed up when I restarted gdm.

Am I doing something wrong? I am not familiar with UTF-8.

Unfortunately, I kept an old conf file because I was fine with my
setup.
