Version: 2.1.91-1
Severity: minor

Gedit in Japanese locale, i.e.,

   LANG=ja_JP.eucJP gedit &

will use curiously wide fonts for alphabet texts.
I t   l o o k s   l i k e   t h i s .
I imagine this is because of usage of only one font for displaying Japanese.

Generally, (at least) two fonts are needed to display Japanese text,
one for ASCII characters and the another for JIS X 0208 characters.
This can easily achieved without requiring programmers such a knowledge
for each language by using "XFontSet" (see XCreateFontSet(3x)).
I remember a past version of gedit was able to display Japanese text
correctly.
